Rachel DeLozier, third from left, holding bell.

What: Benโ€™s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is โ€œbelled.โ€

Last weekโ€™s recipient: Rachel DeLozier.

Nominated by: Laila Halaby.

Why: DeLozier volunteers for Owl and Panther, a nonprofit expressive arts program serving refugee families. DeLozier is present every week and is cheerful and kind with every single child with whom she works. She has adjusted her own schedule on several occasions in order to ensure that all participants can be present for all the activities. DeLozier always exhibits genuine kindness, Halaby wrote in her nomination letter. Volunteering by definition goes above and beyond, and DeLozier takes that a few steps further. She is a consistent and honest role model who is always looking for more ways to help, whether that is providing extra resources for a family, or volunteering on a weekend outing, or driving one extra participant or simply listening, Halaby wrote.
