Donna Walker, a hero at Palo Verde High School.

What: Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is “belled.”

Last week’s recipient: Donna Walker.

Nominated by: Annie Conway.

Why: For her dedicated work as Palo Verde High School’s community liaison. Walker helps all students and families in need, Conway wrote. She always has a supply of hygiene products, diapers, clothing and food on hand. She even started “Snack Pack Friday” to help students who do not always have enough food at home to help them through the weekend. Conway wrote that Walker also works to connect with churches and community organizations to help provide support for students and their families. Recently, Walker helped a student who had just lost her mother and whose family was struggling financially. The student had worn the same shoes for two years and they were falling apart, Conway wrote. Walker worked with a local organization and quickly got the student a new pair of shoes that the student was able to pick out. “Donna is a hero to Palo Verde High. She brightens everyone’s day and Palo Verde High would not be the same without her,” Conway wrote.
