A 2-year-old boy was saved by an off-duty Border Patrol agent after he performed CPR on the child in Hereford, Arizona, Wednesday afternoon.Β

Jed Eckler, an agent with the Brian A. Terry Station in Tucson, was traveling on Highway 92 when he was flagged down by the boy's parents.

The woman informed Eckler that her son was unconscious and not breathing, according to an agency press release.

Eckler accessed the child's health and began performing CPR. After several attempts, the infant was alert and breathing.

A Palominas fire crew responded to the location to take the child to a local hospital for further evaluation.

β€œThe actions of Agent Eckler demonstrate the dedication I see every day from the employees of Tucson Sector,"Β said Tucson Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodolfo Karisch. "They are committed to protecting people and saving lives.”
