An opening in a Nogales, Sonora cemetery raised suspicions when it was discovered Aug. 26.

The 20-inch by 20-inch opening led Mexican authorities and U.S. Border Patrol agents to a 5-feet deep tunnel that extended 46 feet into the United States.

Agents found digging tools, power cords, a gas-powered generator, and a small swamp cooler inside the unfinished tunnel, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a news release Monday. The tunnel was found in the drainage system beneath the border near the DeConcini Port of Entry in downtown Nogales.
