Sam Levitz Furniture is going out of business after 71 years, the company has announced on its website.
Without an explanation, an online video said a liquidation sale begins Thursday, Oct. 3, at 10 a.m. at its stores at 3430 E. 36th St. and 3750 W. Orange Grove Road.
Inventory will be discounted up to 65%, the company said.
Sam Levitz closed its Prince Road location earlier this year and its going-out-of-business details are being handled by Planned Furniture Promotions.

“Sam has been an absolute pleasure to work with. His concern for his employees and customers was always at the forefront of our discussions,” said Tom Liddell, senior vice president of PFP, told online publication Furniture Today. “Planned Furniture Promotions is honored to support the Levitz family during this transition, ensuring that their legacy of customer care continues through this final sale and beyond.”
The Tucson management did not respond to requests for comment.
Sam Levitz opened the first Tucson furniture store in 1953. His son, Sam, took over the business in 1991.
The liquidation sale includes brands such as Benchmade, Four Hands, Kuka, Leather Italia, Parker Living, Sealy, Stearns & Foster, Steve Silver and Tempur-Pedic.
