A new business in the Tucson market is looking to tap into the knowledge and empathy of retirees.

Seniors Helping Seniors is a national chain that has entered the Tucson market with plans to expand into Cochise and Santa Cruz counties.

Seniors Helping Seniors is hiring retirees in the Tucson area to work as peer caregivers.

β€œOur target age is 50 to 70, but there’s no cap on that age, in fact we just hired a 79-year-old,” said Cameron Schipul, owner of the Southern Arizona franchise. β€œWe even have caregivers that are older than the person they are caring for.”

Like other companies that offer senior care, Seniors Helping Seniors aims to help people stay in their home with services ranging from companionship to light housekeeping and transportation to appointments or help walking a pet.

β€œSometimes people just can’t tuck in the bed sheets anymore or the towels are too heavy a load,” Schipul said. β€œBaby boomers know how to relate to aging and are empathetic.”

From companionship to help with technology, Seniors Helping Seniors, hopes to match customers with caregivers closer to their age.

He said older workers areΒ also more reliable.

And customers, he said, β€œare more comfortable having a conversation about personal matters with an older person.”

Seniors Helping Seniors is hiring with a starting pay of $16 per hour and flexible scheduling. Visit seniorshelpingseniors.com or call 520-487-4246 for more information.
