New United Way CEO sought as Penn departs
A search is underway for a new CEO after United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona president Tony Penn announced his intention to step down effective June 30, 2025.
Penn, who has been at the helm of the nonprofit since July 2010, leads a staff of 65 and is supported by more than 10,000 donors, 4,500 volunteers and 300 business partners.
The United Way assists nonprofit partner agencies and organizations that serve children, families, older adults and others throughout Tucson and Southern Arizona, a news release said.
A special committee has been appointed to oversee a national search for Penn’s replacement.
Pima County to host job, resource fair Wednesday
Pima County is hosting a job and resource fair Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 3 to 6 p.m.
The event, at Coronado K-8 School, 3401 E. Wilds Road, will allow job seekers to meet with employers from several job sectors.
Among the employers scheduled to attend are:

- Walgreens
- Safeway
- Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona
- MHC Healthcare
- Desert Hospitality Management
- KE&G Construction
- Nesco Resource LLC
- Growth Ability Services
- Top marketing group
Information will be available about free child care resources, employment support, mental health and substance use treatment and more.
DREAM job fair returns
A job fair for people with disabilities will be held Thursday, Oct. 10.
Among the employers expected to attend are the City of Tucson, Desert Hospitality Management, Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona, Habitat for Humanity, Howmet Aerospace, Raytheon, Sargent Aerospace, Sonoran Stitch Factory, Tanque Verde Ranch, Tohono O’odham Nation, Tucson Electric Power, Walgreens and more.
The Disability & Rehabilitation Employment Awareness Month (DREAM) event is happening from 10 a.m. to noon at the Kino Event Center in the Kino North Complex, 2805 E. Ajo Way.
This year’s event is put on by Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona, Beacon Group, Banner University Health Plans, Division of Developmental Disabilities, Rehabilitation Services Administration, Department of Economic Security, TCH – The Centers for Habilitation, Pima County Library, SAAVI, Arizona Complete Health, Coyote Taskforce, La Frontera Center, United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona, Pima County Onestop, and United Healthcare.
