Behavioral health effort launches in Tucson

Carondelet Behavioral Health has partnered with El Rio Health to improve access to comprehensive behavioral health services.

The services are available to those 18 and up who are seeking care for depression, hallucinations, anxiety, suicidal or homicidal thoughts, adjustment disorders, substance use disorders, acute symptoms related to mood disorders, psychosis, trauma and stressors, and alcohol, opiate and benzo detox.

As of Oct. 1, El Rio began offering psychiatric inpatient services at St. Mary’s Hospital, 1601 W. St. Mary’s, as well as on-call coverage at St. Mary’s and St. Joseph’s Hospital, 350 N. Wilmot Road.

“Tucson is experiencing a severe shortage of behavioral health resources, and it remains a very underserved and stigmatized population in Pima County,” said Lora Mott, Carondelet director of behavioral health. “Substance abuse, alcohol and drug addiction, serious psychological and mental disorders as well as suicide ideation are among the issues residents face in our community. Our collaboration brings a new approach to the care of people afflicted by these issues.”

Vantage West partners to support small businesses

Tucson’s Vantage West Credit Union is taking part in two programs designed to support the small business community.

The credit union has partnered with Local First Arizona for the return of Fuerza Local — Tucson, which supports the local Hispanic small business community with education, resources and networking. Vantage West is hosting the program’s weekly meetings at its University branch, 801 E. Speedway, serving 23 business owners over three months. Learn more at localfirstaz.com/fuerza-local.

It has also joined forces with the Filene Research Institute, Bridge for Billions and credit unions across the country to sponsor the Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Incubator. This program equips entrepreneurs with tools to refine and scale their small business or business ideas. Of the 58 participating businesses, 34 are from Arizona. “By collaborating with local organizations and national initiatives, we aim to create opportunities that support small business growth, foster innovation and contribute to the economic prosperity of our communities,” said Mark Papoccia, Vantage West chief member experience officer, in a news release.
