Business awards earned in Southern Arizona

Better Business Bureau: The Better Business Bureau Serving Southern Arizona has named the winners of the 2024 BBB Torch Awards for Ethics and BBB Spark Award for Entrepreneurship. The awards recognize organizations and entrepreneurs who exemplify a commitment to honesty, transparency and integrity.

Three Desert View High School students were named the winners of BBB’s Student Ethics Video Contest. Ivan Angulo clinched the $2,000 top prize. Lucy Pacheco scored second place and $1,000. Farah Alghaithi secured third place and $500.

South32: The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona announced that the South32 Hermosa Community Fund has awarded $120,000 to 15 nonprofit organizations in Santa Cruz County.

The South32 Hermosa Community Fund supports nonprofit organizations based in Santa Cruz County. Supported areas include arts, culture and history, environment, health and welfare, recreation, and civic enhancement.

US payrolls rose in March by the most in nearly a year and the unemployment rate dropped, pointing to a strong labor market that's powering the economy. But the Black jobless rate climbed sharply in March, with Black women seeing the biggest losses. "We're keeping a very, very close eye on that and we'll continue to work on closing that gap between Black-White unemployment,"Β Julie Su, acting US Labor Secretary, said on "Bloomberg The Open."
