Business awards earned in Southern Arizona

University of Arizona: The University of Arizona Eller College of Management and its MBA program have been ranked in multiple categories on U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best Business Rankings. Rankings include:

Best information systems MBA programs – No. 3; No. 1 public

Best business analytics MBA programs – No. 36 (new); No. 14 public

Best full-time MBA programs – No. 50 (tied); No. 26 public (tied)

Best part-time MBA programs – No. 60 (tied); No. 40 public (tied)

Startup Tucson: Startup Tucson has been named a Stage One winner by the U.S. Small Business Administration for the 2024 Growth Accelerator Fund Competition.

Startup Tucson will receive a $50,000 cash prize for its approach to advancing small business research and development from ideas to the market in the agricultural and food innovation areas through its FEAST (Food, Entrepreneurship, Agriculture, Science, and Technology Ecosystem for Arizona) program.

Golder Ranch Fire District: Golder Ranch Fire District has received the Government Finance Officers Association’s budget presentation award.

To receive the budget award, the fire district had to satisfy nationally-recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.

Pima County Economic Development: Heath Vescovi-Chiordi, director of the Pima County Economic Development Department, has been named the Economic Developer of the Year by the Arizona Association for Economic Development.

Vescovi-Chiordi has served as the County’s economic development director since 2022. Under his leadership, the department has made progress in attracting new businesses to the county and in the areas of business retention, expansion and workforce development.

Hughes Federal Credit Union: Hughes received two awards from San Miguel High School’s Corporate Work Study program.

The credit union earned the 15-Year Partnership Award for its long-term commitment to nurturing local youth, and the Student Choice Award, which recognizes Hughes as a top workplace for students who engage in meaningful work, learn essential skills and foster professional growth, a news release said.

The San Miguel program provides high school students with real-world job experiences across various industries.

Construction continues on the former Solot Plaza, now known as Sol Block along East Broadway Boulevard on May 1. Local developer Larsen Baker was chosen by Rio Nuevo to redevelop the area and has had great success recruiting tenants to the future complex.
