University of Arizona: The University of Arizona retained its status as one of the nation’s best universities for service members, according to Military Times.

UA rose to No. 6 overall, No. 5 among public universities and No. 1 in the West in the latest edition of the Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges 2023 ranking.

A total of 325 colleges and universities qualified for inclusion in this year’s list.

The university’s Veterans Education and Transition Services seeks to ensure students transition successfully to the university environment, graduate and obtain meaningful employment.

Student success metrics, along with the range of military-specific resources and financial assistance offered are considered in determining the rankings. Admissions and registration policies, human resources and other considerations also factor in. Survey respondents were also asked to describe a variety of aspects relating to veterans culture on campus.

Tucson Fire Department: The Tucson Fire Department was awarded a grant totaling $28,442, from the Arizona Governors Office of Highway Safety. It will be used to buy new extrication equipment that will primarily be used for training at the Public Safety Academy.
