Pima County's swim team program was launched in 1992. 

Pima County Parks & Recreation: Pima County Parks & Recreation’s swim team program has been recognized with the 2024 Outstanding Program for Aquatics Award from the Arizona Parks & Recreation Association.

The honor recognizes innovation, responding to a community need and general excellence.

Nine teams participate in the annual summer program, which holds weekly practices, five swim meets and a daylong championship at the end of the season.

The program, launched in 1992, is open to youth ages 5 to 18 and typically draws more than 800 participants every summer.

University of Arizona: The University of Arizona received top marks in The Princeton Review’s list of America’s best universities.

The UA was recognized in the education service company’s “The Best 390 Colleges: 2025 Edition,” for fire safety (99), sustainability (86) and quality of life (86). Ratings are based on a scale of 60 to 99, with 99 being the best possible score.

The university also scored well in admissions (86), financial aid (84) and academics (77).

The university earned rankings in the following categories:

  • No. 4: Everyone Plays Intramural Sports
  • No. 12: Best Health Services
  • No. 18: Most Active Student Government
  • No. 30: Top 50 Entrepreneurship (No. 5 in the Southwest)
  • No. 50: Top 50 Green Colleges

Bryten Real Estate Partners: Bryten, a multifamily management company based in Tucson and Phoenix, has been named a top-10 employer in the nation by the National Apartment Association.

The top 10 multifamily employers are selected based on anonymous employee satisfaction surveys and the organization’s ability to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation and hard work.

The company serves 11 states and more than 30 cities, with 1,150 employees managing nearly 47,000 units.

The award pays tribute to management companies and suppliers from the rental housing industry that have created safe, engaging and caring work environments.

Daiso — the popular Japanese discount store — opened its first Tucson store today/ Hundreds of eager Tucson shoppers lined up for the grand opening, with some shoppers getting in line as early as 5 a.m. for the 9 a.m. opening. The line snaked around the shopping center and was holding steady an hour after opening. Daiso is located in the Ventana Village Shopping Center, 6884 E. Sunrise Drive, in the 10,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Tuesday Morning.
