Two people were killed Friday evening when the driver of an SUV crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming car, authorities say.

About 7:15 p.m., Roger Haynie, 66, was driving as 2002 Ford Explorer south on South Nogales Highway when he crossed the center line near South Old Nogales Highway, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

The Ford then smashed into a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe headed north, killing 72-year-old Eliva Soto, a passenger. The driver of the Hyundai was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Both Haynie and Soto died at the crash scene. Neither wore a seatbelt, the release said.

The investigation into the crash continues.
