A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of child abuse after a 2-year-old boy shot himself in the hand northwest of Tucson, authorities say.
The incident happened about 6:30 p.m. March 3, when officials responded to an emergency call at a house 5000 block of West Nighthawk Way, near West Linda Vista Boulevard and North Hartman Lane, and found the wounded child, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday in a news release.
A 2-year-old shot himself after gaining access to the weapon and accidentally firing it, the release said.
Investigators say Jeremiah Vaughn left the firearm within the child’s reach, the release said. Following a preliminary investigation into the incident, Vaughn was arrested on suspicion of child abuse and booked into the Pima County jail.
