Jesus Enrique Camacho Cesena

An 18-year-old driver faces charges in a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian dead, officials say.

Michael Mena, 65, was walking across South 12th Avenue with a companion just after 10 p.m. Sunday when he was struck by a black pickup truck headed south, Tucson police said Wednesday in a news release. The companion was not struck.

Mena, who was not in a crosswalk, died Tuesday at the hospital, the release said.

The driver initially fled the crash, the release said. While officers were at the crash scene, a 911 caller reported the black Dodge Ram believed to have been in the crash was stolen.

Officers later determined that was not true and arrested Jesus Enrique Camacho Cesena on suspicion of felony hit and run resulting in serious injury or death.

The investigation continues.
