Pima sheriff's car

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has identified the woman who died Saturday after jumping from her boyfriend’s car after reporting he wouldn't let her out.

She was Debra Murrieta, 54, the department said Monday.Β

The Sheriff’s Department gave the following account in a news release Sunday:

Deputies responded to a domestic violence report involving Murrieta and her boyfriend, 36-year-old William Holloway.

Murrieta reported Holloway had taken an illegal drug while the couple were driving up to Mount Lemmon and refused to let her out of the vehicle.

Deputies attempted to stop Holloway's car, but he led them on a short pursuit at speeds of 25 to 45 mph.

Murrieta jumped out of the moving car and was critically injured. Deputies stopped the chase and she was taken to a hospital, where she died of her injuries.

Holloway was later located in the vehicle, which had a flat tire at that point, and was taken into custody.

He is being held at the Pima County Adult Detention Complex on suspicion of domestic violence kidnapping, first-degree homicide and unlawful flight from law enforcement.

No further details were released Monday.Β
