A Tohono O’odham Nation member convicted of sexually abusing a minor was sentenced to almost 20 years in prison.

Roy Samuel Paredes, 64, of Tucson pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor on Nov. 8, 2023.

He was sentenced on June 24 to 235 months in prison and a lifetime of supervised release, the U.S. Attorney's Office says in a news release. The judge was U.S. District Judge James A. Soto.

Officials say Paredes molested a young girl in the summer of 2021 on the Tohono O’odham Nation in Sells.

Court records say this is not Paredes' first conviction on an offense like this. He was convicted in 1993 of sexually molesting three girls between 1983 and 1988.

The investigation was conducted by the Tohono O’odham Nation Police Department and the FBI.
