A young family had to be rescued from a U-Haul truck after driving into a flooded roadway on Tucson's south side Thursday night.ย

A young family was displaced Thursday as fierce winds and strong monsoon storms poured down over Tucson.

A couple in their 20s and two children were traveling in a U-Haul when they entered a flooded road at 16th Avenue and West District Street, near Ajo Way and Interstate 19, according to Tucson Fire Department spokesperson Shelle Jackson.

Realizing they couldnโ€™t pass, the couple attempted to turn the truck around but got stuck, Jackson said.

Firefighters found the man outside the vehicle trying to rescue the girls inside. Jackson said firefighters rescued the man and then retrieved the woman and two children from the truck. Jackson said the U-Haul was filled with belongings and the family had no place to stay. The Red Cross is assisting.

Tucson Fire responded to 11 swift water calls within one hour on Thursday evening, Jackson said. There were also three rescue calls and 15 vehicles left stranded.

No injuries were reported.
