A woman who reported her boyfriend had taken an illegal drug and wouldn’t let her out of a car eventually jumped from the moving vehicle as deputies were chasing it, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department says.

She was fatally injured.

The Sheriff’s Department gave the following account in a news release Sunday:

About 6:20 p.m. Saturday, deputies were called to the area of Catalina Highway and Melpomene Way for a domestic violence report.

The woman had reported that her boyfriend, William Holloway, was driving them up to Mount Lemmon when he took an illegal drug. She said he refused to pull over to let her out of the car.

When deputies caught up with them and tried to get Holloway to stop, he fled, and was chased at speeds between 25 and 45 mph.

The woman jumped out during the chase and was critically injured.

Deputies stopped the pursuit, and she was taken to a local hospital, where she died. Her name and age have not been released.

Holloway’s vehicle was located later with a flat tire.

Holloway, 36, was taken into custody and faces charges of domestic violence kidnapping, first-degree homicide and unlawful flight from law enforcement.

He is being held at the Pima County Adult Detention Complex.
