A man who was shot and killed last month after authorities say he charged deputies while carrying a sword has been identified.

Devon Lewis, 23, was shot after 10 p.m. Feb.24, when deputies say they found him outside a hotel in the 4800 block of South Palo Verde Road after a 911 caller reported a man was there yelling and waving a sword, the Pima Regional Critical Incident Team said in a news release.

Lewis was shot by Deputy Ramon Morales when he pulled the sword from its sheath and ran toward deputies, the release said.

Lewis died at the scene.

Morales, who has been with the department about a year, was not injured, the release said.

As usual, the multi-agency team that investigates officer-involved shootings here will present its findings to the Pima County Attorney's Office.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department is conducting a separate investigation to determine if department policy was followed.
