A 72-year-old Green Valley woman accused of insurance fraud has been sentenced to prison, officials say,

Victoria Totten pleaded guilty to mail fraud in November 2023, following allegations that she defrauded numerous elderly clients while operating for years as their licensed insurance agent, the US Attorney’s Office in Arizona said in a news release.

Totten was accused of falsely representing insurance policy terms to clients, getting them to pay advance payments for a lower rate and over-collecting insurance premium payments, the release said.

Additionally, instead of directly transferring the payments to the insurance companies, Totten would keep large amounts of her clients’ payments for herself, using them to pay the insurance premium on other client accounts, the release said.

Totten was sentenced May 14, to 21 months in prison by US District Judge Jennifer G. Zipps. She also was ordered to pay $114,781 in restitution, the release said.
