An Oro Valley man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on suspicion of assaulting a Border Patrol agent last month in Nogales, authorities say.

Erik Alberto Beal, 26, is accused of pointing a gun at the agent on April 11 near the United States-Mexico border, a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Arizona says.

The on-duty agent was searching for someone he saw jump over the border fence and run onto a nearby property when Beal came out of an adjoining property and pointed a .45 caliber pistol at the agent, according to the release.

Beal was ultimately subdued and arrested.

He faces two counts of assault of a federal officer with a weapon and brandishing a firearm during a violent crime, the release said.
