A man who was struck by a vehicle Wednesday night on Tucson's east side has died, police said.ย
In a second incident in midtown, a pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.ย
The first incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. near East Broadway and South Camino Seco. Tucson Fire Department paramedics took the man to Banner-University Medical Center Tucson where he died, said Dugan.
His name was not released, pending notification of family.
Traffic detectives determined that the man was running south across Broadway, east of Camino Seco and he was not in a crosswalk. As he ran over the median and entered the eastbound lanes of traffic, he was struck by a gray 2010 Chrysler Sebring, said Dugan.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash, and the driver showed no signs of impairment, said Dugan. No citations have been issued.ย
Dugan said the midtown crash occurred on North Alvernon Way between East Speedway and East Fairmount Street. No further information was released in the incident.ย
Since January, there have been 39 fatalities in the city, compared to 40 as of this date last year, according to police department statistics.
