A 30-year-old man is facing two counts of first-degree murder in separate shootings Monday that killed two men, authorities said.
Roque Gutierrez was booked into the Pima County jail Monday for the shooting death of his in-law Eulises Echevarria, 35, in the 5200 block of South Fletcher Avenue, authorities said. This was a Tucson Police Department case.
On Thursday, he was charged with an additional first-degree murder count in the fatal shooting of Saul Saucedo-Zavala, 37, in the 10400 block of South Epperson Lane, said Deputy Ryan Inglett of the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
Sheriff's and Tucson Police detectives worked collaboratively on the investigations that led to Gutierrez's arrests, said Inglett. He said he could not elaborate about the details.
The shooting of Saucedo-Zavala was reported at about noon, said Inglett. When deputies arrived at Epperson Lane, they found Saucedo-Zavala with gunshot wounds and rendered first aid until Rural/Metro Fire Department paramedics arrived, said Inglett.
Paramedics took over treatment but Saucedo-Zavala was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the second shooting, Tucson police responded to Fletcher Avenue at about 2:30 p.m. and entered a home and found a man with gunshot trauma, police said. Tucson Fire Department paramedics assisted with treatment, however Echevarria was pronounced dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives determined that Gutierrez and another family member were visiting Echevarria when shots were fired and Echevarria was struck, police said.
Gutierrez fled alone in a vehicle. Detectives obtained an address in the county for Gutierrez, and sheriff's deputies went to the 10000 block of South Summit Creek and Gutierrez was taken into custody, police said.
Gutierrez is being held in Pima County jail on a $1,751,300 bond.
