Several students from Sierra Vista's Buena High School found themselves in trouble with the law over the weekend, during a cluster of spring break pranks that are being tied to 'class wars' at the school, authorities said.
On Saturday, deputies responded to a criminal damage call, after a car was hit by eggs while traveling down Highway 92, south of Canyon de Flores, said Carol Capas, a Cochise County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.
With the assistance of Sierra Vista police, deputies located two 15-year-old students who they believe were involved in the incident and said that "class wars" were going on between Buena High School sophomores and juniors during spring break, Capas said.
Officials investigated a similar incident the night before, after a marked DPS vehicle and other cars were also hit by eggs. The suspects were not located, and the two minors detained in the Saturday incident said they weren't involved in the Friday egging, Capas said.
On Sunday, Sierra Vista police officers arrived at a collision at South Moson Road and East Thuma Road, and learned that the occupants of both vehicles were Buena High School students that had been "driving in a manner unsafe for the roadway" before the crash, Capas said.
A Nissan X-terra turned from Moson to Thuma while a Toyota Corolla unsuccessfully tried to pass it, leading to the crash. The passenger of the Corolla was pregnant, but wasn't injured in the collision, Capas said.
Police learned that before the crash, a female in the X-terra threw a milk shake from the rear passenger window of the vehicle onto the hood of the Corolla.
"Information garnered by Deputies indicated that this incident was related to the ongoing 'class wars' occurring at Buena High school," she said.
Drivers of both vehicles were cited for civil violations, and the person who threw the milkshake was criminally cited, Capas said.
"We will ensure the incidents are charged and prosecuted accordingly," she said.
