No charges to be filed in shooting death
Charges will not be filed against a 26-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of his girlfriend.
The Pima County Attorney's Office declined to pursue charges against Ronald James Corbin Jr. for the death of his girlfriend, Genna Ayup, 27.
"The evidence does not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that this was anything but an accident," said Chief Criminal Deputy County Attorney Kellie Johnson. Corbin told police he was putting a rubber grip on a loaded handgun when it fired and struck Ayup in the head, according to an interim complaint filed in Pima County Justice Court.
Corbin admitted to having three or four 23-ounce beers at a bar before returning to the couple's home in the 8500 block of East 18th Street, where the shooting happened. The couple's 2-year-old son also was home at the time.
Corbin was initially arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
Johnson said if additional evidence becomes available that shows the shooting was not accidental, the case could be reviewed again.
"Mr. Corbin has always claimed this was an accident, and the evidence gathered by the Police Department has been consistent with that," she said.

Man is arrested in bank robbery
A 45-year-old man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of robbing an east-side bank earlier this month, police said.
David Deaton was booked into the Pima County jail on one count of robbery after he was accused of robbing the Wells Fargo Bank at 555 N. Wilmot Road on Aug. 17, said Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
Deaton is also suspected of robbing two credit unions - a Vantage West Credit Union on Aug. 10 and a Pima Federal Credit Union on Aug. 20, Widmer said in a news release.
In each incident, police say Deaton gave a robbery-demand note to the teller and threatened harm.
He escaped with money after each robbery.
Further charges are pending against Deaton.
