An Oro Valley kennel club is donating $10,000 to the police department this weekend, to go towards the purchase of a new service dog.

The CaΓ±ada Del Oro Kennel Club will be presenting the Oro Valley Police Department with the check at 1 p.m. Sunday, during the AKC Dog Show at Rillito Racetrack Park.

β€œThe generous donation from the CDO Kennel Club shows their support, love and kindness for our four-legged police officers," said Oro Valley Police Chief Daniel Sharp. "I am honored to serve this great community and thankful for the relationship we have with the CDO Kennel Club.”

In September, Oro Valley police K-9 "Lara" passed away after being treated for an undisclosed illness.
