A Pima County Sheriffβs Department service dog has received a donation of a new protective vest.
Rico received the bullet- and stab-protective vest from Vested Interest in K9s Inc., according to a news release from the sheriffβs department.
A donation of about $66,000 is allowing the nonprofit to provide 62 law enforcement dogs around the country with protective vests.
This is the second vest donated recently under this program by the group to the sheriffβs department.
Each vest donated is valued between $1,800 and $2,230 and has a five-year warranty. This vest will replace Ricoβs old vest, which is expiring.
Vested Interest in K9s is located in East Taunton, Massachusetts. Since its inception in 2009, the nonprofit has donated more than 1,900 protective vests to law enforcement dogs around the country.
