A Pima County sheriffโs dog is receiving a new protective vest thanks to a donation from a nonprofit group called Vested Interest in K9s Inc.
Rico, a 4-year-old patrol and narcotics dog, will be receiving a new bullet and stab protection vest to replace one that is about to expire, according to a news release from the Pima County Sheriffโs Department.
A donation to the national charity of nearly $66,000 is enabling the group to provide 62 vests to law enforcement dogs around the country.
Each vest is valued at about $1,800 to $2,200 and comes with a five-year warranty.
Rico completed his basic training earlier this year and is partnered with sheriffโs Deputy Jakob Nixon.
Vested Interest in K9s is headquartered in East Taunton, Massachusetts, and has been providing protective vests to law enforcement dogs since 2009.
