A 20-year-old Sierra Vista man was arrested Saturday after he led officers on an 8-mile chase in a stolen car, authorities said.
At about 1 a.m., Sierra Vista police officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a stolen Chevrolet Cobalt, in the area of the Highway 90 Bypass and Coronado Drive, said department spokesman Corporal Tim Wachtel.
The driver, later identified as Kristopher Riley, refused to pull over and fled from police, reaching speeds of up to 100 mph while driving westbound on the Highway 90 Bypass, Wachtel said.
The chase continued into Huachuca City, where an officer with the local police department assisted in the pursuit, which ended after Riley's vehicle got a flat tire Β in the 800 block of Arizona Street and he briefly fled fled on foot before surrendering to law enforcement, Wachtel said.
Riley was booked into the Cochise County jail in connection with charges of auto theft, criminal damage, felony flight, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and two outstanding warrants, Wachtel said.
