A 29-year-old Tohono O'odham man was sentenced to 18 months in prison on Monday, after pleading guilty to one count of child abuse, authorities said.
Gabriel Juan Antonio, of Pan Tak village on the reservation, had previously served three months in Tohono O'odham cusotody, said Cosme Lopez, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office District of Arizona .
On July 13, 2015, police received a domestic violence call, and learned that Antonio had physically abused a minor child, who was also a member of the Tohono O'odham Nation, Lopez said.
The FBI and Tohono O'odham Police handled the investigation, and the case was prosecuted in Tucson by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Rui Wang and Charisse Arce.
