Police arrested a Tucson man Thursday night, after he allegedly came into a man's home and attacked him with a hammer and knife, authorities said.
39-year-old Clayton Squires was booked into the Pima County jail in connection with charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with serious injury, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
Shortly after 3 p.m., police went to the victim's home near Reid Park, in the 3300 block of Camino Campestre, and learned from the victim that the suspect had entered through the unlocked front door, Dugan said.
The victim told them that an altercation took place, during which the suspect hit him on the head with a hammer. The victim was able to get the hammer away from the suspect and fight back, but the suspect stabbed him multiple times in the process, Dugan said.
The suspect fled the home, at which point police were called.
The victim was transported to the hospital with a "significant head injury," Dugan said.
Detectives with the robbery and aggravated assault units responded to the house, and received information about a "possible known individual" in the area. K-9 units, air support and more officers continued the search of surrounding areas and located Squires later that night.
Dugan said that it's unclear if the victim and Squires know each other, as detectives are still in the process of furthering the investigation.
