A man who was shot multiple times in a home invasion in August on Tucson's north side died Tuesday from his injuries, police said.

William "Bill" Bell, 56, was identified as the victim in the Aug. 9 shooting that occurred in the 1000 block of West Prince Road, west of North Fairview Avenue, said Sgt. Kimberly Bay, a Tucson Police Department spokeswoman, on Thursday.

The case is now being ruled a homicide, Bay said.

Shortly before 1 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting and found Bell with gunshot wounds. He was treated by Tucson Fire Department paramedics and taken to Banner-University Medical Center Tucson.

Home invasion unit detectives took over the investigation and determined that Bell was inside his home with two adults and two children.

An unknown man, who was armed with a handgun, entered the home and demanded money, Bay said. Bell walked to a bedroom where he was shot.

The assailant ran from the home and was last seen getting into the passenger side of a dark truck or SUV. The vehicle left in an unknown direction.

Bay said the assailant was described as Hispanic and was about 30 to 40 years old. He was about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighed about 135 pounds. He had a dark complexion and dark hair. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, jeans and black boots.

Detectives said there was evidence of narcotics sales inside the home, and the invasion and shooting were not random acts, Bay said.

Investigators are asking that anyone with information call 88-CRIME, the anonymous tipster hotline. Β Β
