A motorcyclist was killed in a collision Wednesday morning on the north side, authorities said.

Police were called to the scene of the crash at around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at North First Avenue and East River Road.

When they arrived a doctor and nurse were providing aid to the motorcycle rider. Tucson Fire paramedics arrived and continued treatment and took the rider to Banner-University Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Police identified the rider as Daniel Harrington, 54.

Investigators determined that Harrington was riding a yellow 1999 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on First near River. The driver of a 2009 Toyota RAV4 was northbound and set to make a westbound turn onto River. The light for northbound and southbound traffic was green. The RAV4 was waiting to turn when the driver slowly moved the vehicle too far into the intersection where it collided with the oncoming motorcycle, throwing the rider, police said.

Harrington was wearing a half-shell helmet. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, police said.
