TUCSON, Ariz.β A dedication ceremony is scheduled Friday in Tucson where hundreds of trees are being added along Pantano Wash as part of a commemorative and habitat-restoration program.
Plans call for a total of 570 trees to be added along Pantano River Park, with area residents purchasing the trees to honor friends and family.
B.J. Cordova of Tucson Clean and Beautiful says more than half of the trees are already planted and that the rest will be added in the next several years.
The trees will restore more than two miles of natural habitat, and will grow to provide shade for users of a multi-use path.
The program is based upon a similar project in which 600 trees were added to the Santa Cruz River bank.
