Nine Tucson teens have been named National Merit Scholars.

The high school seniors were awarded $2,500 scholarships based on their academic records, scores from two standardized tests, contributions and leadership in school and community activities, an essay, and recommendation from a high school official. They are:

  • Diviya Rajesh
  • of Basis Tucson North.
  • Sumhith Aradhyula
  • of Catalina Foothills High School.
  • Rachel Dveirin
  • ,
  • Sloan Kanaski
  • ,
  • Alex Lehman
  • ,
  • Richard Shapley
  • and
  • Julia Weidman
  • of University High School
  • Brian Liu
  • of The Gregory School.

The scholars were selected from a pool of more than 15,000 finalists.
