TUSD hosts ‘college night’ on Tuesday

Representatives from more than 200 colleges and training institutes will be available to students and parents at a College Night event Tuesday.

Tucson Unified School District is hosting the free event at the Tucson Convention Center from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Parking is free.

Amphitheater teacher finalist for nat’l honor

A Tucson teacher has been nominated for a national award.

Wendy Johnson, a social studies teacher at Cross Middle School in the Amphitheater School District, was nominated for the 2016-2017 LifeChanger of the Year Award.

The award, which is sponsored by the National Life Group Foundation, recognizes the best K-12 teachers across the country who are making a difference. Each of the 15 winners receives a cash prize.

Sahuarita seeks ‘votes’ to win grant

Sahuarita Intermediate School needs votes from the public to receive a $10,000 grant.

The school plans to buy musical instruments, a sound system and a musical library of resources if it wins.

The grant, facilitated by Frigo Cheese and National Geographic, will be given to the school that receives the most votes. Votes can be submitted online at www.brightfuturepromo.com

Open house scheduled at Tucson high school

Tucson High Magnet School will host an open house Wednesday from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The campus, at 400 N. Second Ave., will be open to community members and especially parents with current eighth graders who want to visit the school and meet the staff.

A welcome ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m.
