Pima County youths who have dropped out of school, as well as young people who graduated but are not in college or working, are invited to participate in a skill-building and job placement program.
The Youth Re-Engagement Center will serve young people ages 16 to 24 at the Tucson Urban League, 2305 S. Park Ave.
Pima Prevention Partnership along with the United Way and the Tucson Urban League are hosting a free event from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 17 . It will include tours of the facility, a cookout, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and photo booth.
The center is sponsored by United Wayβs Youth on the Rise, a multi-sector collaborative working to re-engage opportunity youth in education and career credentialing.
Sunnyside district sets job fair Wednesday
The Sunnyside Unified School District is holding a summer job fair from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 15.
Tucsonβs second largest school district is looking to fill teaching positions as well as nursing positions and paraprofessionals.
Anyone with a bachelorβs degree who is interested in becoming a full-time teacher will be considered.
College representatives from the University of Arizona South, Grand Canyon University and Pima Community College will be attending and will speak with applicants interested in pursuing a teaching career.

Foothills program receives science grant
Catalina Foothills School Districtβs after-school program has received a grant to engage youth in science, technology, engineering and math projects.
The award is from the Arizona Center for Afterschool Excellence and Cox Communications. Grants ranged from $500 to $1,500 and were awarded to nine recipients around the state.
Catalina Foothills will use the funds to engage youth in coding to control complex robotics with iPads. Robots will have the ability to navigate through mazes, play games, races and more.
New principal at Lulu Walker Elementary
Erika Vasas has been named principal of Lulu Walker Elementary School in the Amphitheater School District.
She will replace Michael McConnell who was named principal of the districtβs newest K-5 STEM school slated to open for the 2017-18 school year.
Vasas has 14 years of experience in elementary education and is coming from Oklahoma where she served as an assistant principal.
Amphi teacher wins innovation award
An Amphitheater Middle School educator has received first place in the Henry Fordβs Innovation Nation Teacher Innovator Award contest.
The award, given to Scott Weiler, recognizes educators who are using the classroom to inspire innovation, creativity, problem solving and critical thinking among their students.
Judges selected the winners based on their original and creative approach to teaching, their demonstrated resourcefulness and the positive impact they made.
Weiler will receive a week-long βInnovation Immersion Experienceβ Michigan.
