Group to provide flags
for area classrooms

A Tucson-based organization is working to ensure that American flags hang in area classrooms.

Flags for the Flagless, which has put up more than 100 flags across Tucsonrecently presented 17 American flags to the Tucson Hebrew Academy.

The non-profit, founded by two Tucson police officers, is now seeking businesses, organizations and schools to provide flags and flag poles locally and nationally.

Job fair features

The Vail School District is hosting a job fair Monday in hopes of recruiting bus drivers, special needs paraprofessionals, child care teachers and other support staff for the upcoming year.

The event will be held at Mesquite Elementary School, 9800 E. Rita Road, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m.

wins scholarship

Tucson High Magnet School graduate Meagan Bethel was awarded a $2,500 scholarship by the Philanthropic Educational Organization Chapter W.

The Star Scholarship recognizes excellence in leadership and extracurricular activities, community service, potential for future success and academic achievement.

Six OV students get college scholarships

The Elks National Foundation is recognizing six Oro Valley high school students with college scholarships.

The seniors were selected based on academic achievement, leadership skills, extracurricular activities and community service.

The scholarships were awarded at the Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge #2815 to: Nicole M. Enos of Canyon del Oro High School, $4,000; $1,350 each — Mallory B. Kimble,Ironwood Ridge High School; Lauren G. Tucker, CDO; Jack C. Lamb, Sean E. Randall and Skye M. Uldrich, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy.

Four from UA, Pima
get art scholarships

Four students from the University of Arizona and Pima Community College have been awarded scholarships to pursue art education.

The $500 scholarships were awarded by PaperWorks, the Sonoran Collective for Paper and Book Artists, to Brian Ganter and Katie Killian of UA, and Arisbeth Ibarra and Adam Gilliland of Pima.

win scholarships

Six re-entry students at Pima Community College were awarded a combined $8,950 in scholarships.

The awards, presented by the Casas Adobes Tucson Branch of American Association of University Women, went to Jenifer Frost, Becky Pena-Gonzalez, Denise Herek, Vanina Morrison, Wendy Rosen and Sandra Shannon.

12 UA students get Phi Beta Kappa awards

Twelve University of Arizona students have each been awarded $1,000 scholarships by the Phi Beta Kappa Association of Greater Tucson.

The undergraduates recognized because of their academic achievements and interest in pursuing an arts and sciences education are:

Noe Arroyo-Williams, Tyler M. Bien, Tasanee Kyla Durrett, Pareena Kaur, Eliana Halevi, Sophia Josephine Leone, Sara Mirasola, Hannah Owen, Delaney Rader, Nayelli Woods, Sarah Wright, and Jaqueline Zappia.
