A Cholla High School student is one of 557 students across the country to receive a national scholarship.

Kathleen Armenta won the 2017 Horatio Alger State Scholarship, which recognizes outstanding students who have shown commitment to education despite facing adversity and hardship in life.

She was awarded $10,000 that she could use for her college education.

The Horatio Alger Foundation is an education nonprofit that encourages youth to pursue their dreams of higher education.
