The University of Arizona has a new fundraiser-in-chief.

John-Paul β€œJP” Roczniak has been hired effective immediately as the president and CEO of the University of Arizona Foundation, the school’s main fundraising arm.

Roczniak, who was chosen after a national search, has worked for the foundation for nine years. He has held its top job on an interim basis since July.

He replaces on a permanent basis former president and CEO James Moore, who left last year for a similar post at the University of Illinois Foundation.

Roczniak β€œhas the experience, wisdom and integrity to get great things done for the UA,” major donor Karl Eller said Monday in a news release.

The UA foundation board of directors voted unanimously to approve the hiring, the news release said.

Details of Roczniak’s compensation package were not made available. UA Foundation spokesman Phil Schlesinger initially claimed the new CEO’s pay is protected from public disclosure because the foundation is a nonprofit organization.

When a reporter pointed out that nonprofits must disclose CEO salaries in their annual tax filings, Schlesinger responded that Roczniaks’s pay level β€œwill be available when we file our tax return.”

Moore, the former CEO, took home about $444,000 in foundation pay and related compensation in 2013, the most recent tax filing immediately available online. The foundation reported revenue of nearly $145 million, expenses of about $108 million and total assets of $818 million in 2013, the tax records show.
