Tanque Verde Unified School District was recognized for its excellence in financial reporting.

The district received the certificate of achievement from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The certificate is the highest recognition in governmental accounting.

Adam Hamm, the districtโ€™s business manager, was also awarded an individual financial reporting achievement award.

New Amphitheater STEM school hiring teachers

Amphitheaterโ€™s new science, technology, engineering and math elementary school is now hiring teachers.

The Innovation Academy, which will open in August 2017, needs qualified teachers who can utilize instructional practices to implement STEM concepts.

Catalina High School names 2016 Hall of Fame inductees

The Catalina High School Foundation has announced its 2016 Hall of Fame inductees.

They are:

  • Diana Page Champion, child abuse prevention expert;
  • David Giles, founder of Intermountain Centers for Human Development;
  • Gerry LaBelle, Associated Press journalist;
  • Kay Zeidler McKay, former Arizona State Board of Education president;
  • Cliff Myrick, first CHS baseball coach;
  • Linda Rondstadt, musician;
  • Rex Scott, CHS principal; and
  • Tony Terry, founder of the Gaslight Theatre.

The Alum of the Year is David Getty, who developed stereo-digital mammography.

St. Michaelโ€™s private school to hold open house Nov. 16

St. Michaelโ€™s School, an east-side private K-8 school, is hosting an open house Nov. 16 from 9 to 11 a.m.

The campus at 602 N. Wilmot Road will be open to prospective parents.

At this open house event, the focus will be on kindergarten through fifth grade.
