Amphi solar panels

Solar panels, like those being installed at Harelson Elementary School, are expected to save the Amphi school district $23 million over 25 years.

Amphitheater School District is inviting the public to attend an event celebrating the completion of the district's solar generation project.

The district has solar power systems at 24 schools and support facilities, which are expected to generate more than 60 percent of the district's energy.

The celebration will be held on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Wilson K-8 School, 2330 W. Glover Road.

About 200 sixth graders will give an interactive presentation on solar energy at the event. There will also be a guided tour of the solar structures.
