TUSD, with main offices at 1010 E. 10th St., might not immediately lose special funding related to the six schools.

The TUSD Governing Board will review the contracts tonight for Superintendent H.T. Sanchez and the district's legal counsel.Β

The item was added just before deadline to the Tucson Unified School District's governing board agenda.Β

Rachael Sedgwick, who took office at the beginning of this year, requested the item. She could not immediately be reached today for comment.Β

The item calls for discussions on the employment, assignment, appointment, promotion, demotion, dismissal, salaries, disciplining or resignation of Sanchez and Todd Jaeger.Β

The board meeting will take place this evening.

"I really don't know what it's about," Sanchez, the superintendent, said. "I haven't really received any communication from Ms. Sedgwick."Β

Neither he nor Jaeger have received direct or indirect communication from Sedgwick about what she wants to review regarding their employment with the district, he said. When he asked Board President Michael Hicks, he said he was told Hicks didn't know much either.

Hicks also could not be reached immediately for comment.Β

Adelita Grijalva, another TUSD governing board member and past board president, said this isn't how it's usually done when the board is considering terminating the contract of district administrators.Β

"There's a way to do it that's delicate and not horrible," she said.

Should three members of the board vote to fire Sanchez at the meeting, the district would have no superintendent, as the item didn't come with plans for an interim superintendent or a new search, she added.Β

"Right now is a horrible time to look for a new superintendent," she said.

Sanchez was hired by TUSD in 2013. He's paid a base salary of more than $200,000 a year to oversee about 52,000 students in schools across the city. His contract is set for renewal in 2018.Β
