The Tucson Values Teachers Board of Directors has selected longtime educator Teresa Hill as new chief executive officer of the nonprofit organization, effective Jan. 1.
Hill is currently deputy director of the Arizona Educational Foundation. She teaches education law and personnel courses part-time at Northern Arizona University, where she earned her doctorate in 2019.
As Tucson Values Teachers CEO, she will succeed Andy Heinemann, who announced his retirement earlier this year.
During her tenure at the Arizona Educational Foundation, Hill was chief coordinator for the A+ School of Excellence, Arizona Spelling Bee, Principals Leadership of Arizona, teachSTEM and Our World programs. She also supervised the Take Your Legislator to School and Arizona Teacher of the Year programs.
She is a previous principal of Walden Grove High School in Sahuarita and was an assistant principal at Flowing Wells High School after working as a math teacher and creating a full-time dance program that produced a national championship.
βI hope to continue the impactful programming that TVT has been providing, while also contributing fresh ideas to make a meaningful impact on attracting and retaining highly qualified educators,β Hill said in a news release. βMy education career started right here in Tucson, and I am eager to refocus my energy back on a local level, supporting and celebrating teachers in Southern Arizona.β
Community donations
Academy of Tucson Elementary School had a little help from Tucson Electric Power and the YMCA for its Dec. 15 winter concert, βWeβre Better Together!β
Music teacher Christine Egan repurposed TEP wire and cable reels into tables for featured instruments. Students set up ukuleles, maracas and tambourines on the makeshift tables. TEP provides the reels to nonprofit groups and schools at no cost.
The YMCA pitched in by donating a new sound system to the school, 9209 E. Wrightstown Road.
