The Jim & Robbie Dick Social Justice Memorial Scholarship, granted annually to a high school senior in the Tucson area who demonstrates dedication to social justice causes, is accepting applications.

The $5,000 scholarship, in its third year, aims to continue the legacy of its namesakes, longtime Tucsonans who were β€œchampions of equality, justice and human rights,” by supporting β€œthose striving to create positive social change within their communities” and by β€œempowering the next generation of changemakers”.

The application window for the 2023-2024 school year opened Dec. 15 and runs to March 13.

Applicants must showcase academic achievements, community involvement, activism and personal statements. Instructions for applying are at www.iskashitaa.org or by emailing iskashitaascholarship@gmail.com.

Strengthening Families classes

The Strengthening Families program, designed to improve parenting skills, family relationships and children’s school performances, has opened registration for its January cohort.

The free 11-week program is offered by the Community Mental Health and Addiction Program at the Pima County Health Department has opened registration for the January cohort of the Strengthening Families Program. It also aims to improve social competencies while reducing problem behaviors, delinquency and substance misuse in children.

The program meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings via Zoom from Jan. 16 through March 26, with Tuesdays designed for lessons and Thursdays for debriefing and practicing the skills. Tuesday lessons are designed for all parents, and for children between the ages of 7-17. Thursday check-ins are usually designed with separate sessions for parents and children.

Pima County residents may register by a 12 p.m. Jan. 12 deadline. For more information, email CMHA@pima.gov.

Amphitheater hosting career fair

Amphitheater Public Schools will host a career fair 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 10, a Saturday, at 701 W. Wetmore Road.
