Tucson area schools were awarded more than $20,000 in grants to support programming focused on science, technology, environment, engineering, agriculture and mathematics.

Continental School District was awarded $5,000 for a math intervention program for grades third through eighth.

Pima County JTED was awarded $5,000 for the creation of an agriscience/vet science laboratory.

Sahuarita Unified School District was awarded $5,000 for the purchase of SMART Board technology at Walden Grove High School.

Sunnyside School District was awarded $750 for the creation of a sustainable garden at Lauffer Middle School.

The Rising School was awarded $5,000 for the creation of a robotics program.

The grants were awarded by Hudbay Minerals Arizona business unit, which includes the Rosemont Project.

A second round of grant funding for district and charter schools will begin Jan. 1 through March 1, with awards issued in April.
