Three Tucson teachers were recognized for their exceptional teaching skills by Raytheon.

Jessica Howell of Hendricks Elementary in the Flowing Wells district, Lauren Marlatt of Coronado K-8 in Amphitheater and Steven Uyeda of Sunnyside High in Sunnyside were named the 2017 Raytheon Leaders in Education.

The award was established to honor K-12 teachers in Pima County who demonstrate excellence in teaching, leadership and support for their peers.

The three teachers were selected from more than 50 individual applications. Each winner will receive $2,500. Their schools would also each receive $2,500.

As part of the award, the winning teachers will also meet with business and political leaders to talk about classroom successes and advocate for education advancement.
