Molino Fire

An air tanker drops a load of retardant on the Molina Fire in the Santa Catalina Mountains.

U.S. Forest Service officials are asking the public to help find a man they believe could have started a fire last week on Mount Lemmon.

The Molino Fire began April 4 near milepost 4.5 on the Mount Lemmon Highway.

Officials believe the fire was related to recreational shooting, due to witness reports and activity associated with where the fire started, the Forest Service said Monday in a news release.

The brush fire burned about 50 acres.

Officials described the person of interest as a tall man with a husky build, wearing a light-colored hat, gray shirt, shorts and tennis shoes.

Witnesses saw him move toward a forest-green, mid-1990s Ford Explorer parked in the area.

Anyone with information on the person of interest, activity near milepost 4.5 on Tuesday, or any other suspicious activity can call the Coronado National Forest Supervisor’s Office at 388-8300.
