Four people were displaced after four units were damaged in a Friday morning fire at a north side apartment complex.

Four people were displaced after several apartments were damaged during a Friday morning fire at a complex on Tucson's north side, officials said.

A person called 911 shortly after 1 a.m. to report flames coming from an apartment in the area of East Fort Lowell and North Dodge Boulevard. Within minutes, several more 911 calls were made reporting heavy smoke and flames from a specific apartment complex, located in the 3800 block of East Fort Lowell Road, said Capt. Barrett Baker, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

The first fire unit that arrived saw a large fire coming from a second floor apartment, with flames engulfing the entire unit, Baker said.

One crew began extinguishing flames from the outside while additional units helped evacuate the adjacent apartments. It took nine units consisting of 23 firefighters to bring the blaze under control within 11 minutes of arriving at the scene. There were no injuries reported by firefighters.

The fire damage was confined to the upstairs apartment where the fire started, which was unoccupied at the time, Bakers said.

The Red Cross of Southern Arizona is assisting four residents from three neighboring units were displaced because of water, electrical or smoke damage.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire and Tucson police were also at the scene, gathering information from residents of the complex.
